Reconciling a BOM against canonical identities
Separate source designations from canonical parts and preserve the evidence behind every accepted mapping.

1. Compare lines and quantities
Review the source BOM against compiled assembly instances. Quantity differences may reveal an export scope problem, a duplicated instance or a BOM convention—not necessarily a compiler defect.
2. Examine identity evidence
Prefer exact dimensional and feature evidence for standard components. A familiar label is useful context but does not establish a purchasable size by itself.
3. Keep unresolved lines unresolved
Do not map a line merely to make coverage complete. If the catalogue family is absent or two candidates remain within tolerance, assign review work or abstain.
4. Accept a team mapping
Record the source designation, canonical catalogue ID and the revision evidence checked. Future team work can reuse the accepted mapping without turning it into an unscoped public fact.
